Men’s Golf completes regular season at Giles-Sprately Collegiate

Four Atlantic Sun teams accompany the Lions to Richmond, Va.

RICHMOND, Va. (April 5, 2026)  The University of North Alabama men's golf team heads to Richmond, Va. on April 6-7 for the Giles-Sprately Collegiate, hosted by Liberty and Richmond at Independence Golf Club.

NOTES

LAST TIME OUT: The UNA men's golf team took home a third-place designation after the conclusion of the Bridgestone Intercollegiate tournament held in Napa, Calif. on Tuesday. The Lions placed two golfers, Jedd Brady and Xing Luo, in the top-five of the tournament; each finished seven-under through the 54-holes. A scorecard of 209 places the pair in 22nd and 23rd for the Best Division I three-round individual tournament total in North Alabama history. After the best second round of the field yesterday at 16-under, UNA returned with a three-under final round to conclude the week at 20-under. Four teams finished all three rounds under-par, No. 27 BYU, Santa Clara, San Francisco and North Alabama. The Lions finished with a total score of 844 which tied for the ninth-best Division I three-round team total. After yesterday's 272 score and today's 285, the 557 total ties for the third-best Division I two-round team total.

THE BREAKDOWN: Richmond and Liberty are co-hosting the tournament at Independence Golf Club. A total of 14 teams will tee off on Monday, April 6. Monday starts by way of shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. with continuous 36 holes to be played. Tuesday will see a split tee times off holes 1 and 10. The course is a par 72 and spans 7.135 yards.

THE FIELD: A total of 14 teams will participate in this tournament. No. 79 Liberty and No. 140 Richmond join as the host schools of the tournament. Other east coast teams include Virginia Commonwealth (VCU), Longwood University, East Carolina, No. 70 Charleston, Delaware, James Madison and Depaul. Four ASUN teams accompany the Lions in No. 68 Stetson, Jacksonville, No. 54 FGCU and North Florida.
 
CLIMBING THE RANKS: Jedd Brady and Xing Luo are coming off their best tournaments of the season, both tied for fifth in the Bridgestone Intercollegiate in Napa, Calif. These two led the Lions to a third-place finish, the teams fifth top-three finish of the year. This tournament moved Luo up 53 spots after his seven-under finish while Brady elevated 127 spots after his finish. The two gave UNA the third-best scoring tournament of the season at 20-under and giving the program the 96th ranking in the country.
 
EAST COAST EXCITEMENT: The Lions began the season at the Golfweek Fall Challenge in Pawley's Island, S.C. at the True Blue Golf Resort. UNA finished second in the tournament, one stroke behind first-place Georgia Southern. The team finalized the best three-round team total in Division I history at 34-under. Redshirt freshman Walter Waineby finished 10-under in sixth-place to lead the team – Luo and Andrew Ferworn both finished tied for 20th. The tournament to begin the season started on the east coast and now the Lions return there to close the regular season at the Giles-Sprately Collegiate.
