NASSAU, Bahamas (October 22, 2023) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team finished the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Men's Invitational at Ocean Club tied for fifth place with Jacksonville State. The White Sands Bahamas NCAA Men's Invitational was the last of five fall tournaments scheduled for UNA. 


After an 11-under-par 277 second round, UNA wrapped up the tournament with a 286 third round, bringing the final total to 844. The Lions tied for fifth place with in-state foe Jacksonville State and placed ahead of Georgia State, Wofford, Wichita State and Santa Clara's "B" squad. Host Santa Clara took home the team title with a 45-under-par 819 total. North Texas took home runner-up honors with an 823, while Saint Mary's put together a 22-under-par third round to close out the tournament at 825 in third place. Southern Illinois rounded out the top four with an 829 score.


North Alabama wrapped up the tournament with a 29 under par finish on par fives. That total was the second best mark of the tournament, trailing only tournament winner Santa Clara.


Helsingborg, Sweden native Sebastian Bengtsson led all UNA individuals with an eight-under-par score of 208, earning him sole possession of 16th place. Henry Frizzell and Eric Luo were not far behind, with Frizzell tying for 20th place, clocking out of the tournament with a 212 total, while Luo tied for 22nd place with a 213. Chase Kaiser participated as an individual and tied for 31st place with a score of 215 following his four-under-par 68 third round. Andrew Ferworn and Niko Nebout rounded out the North Alabama squad, tying for 37th after both turning in an even card of 216. 

All five North Alabama golfers birdied on the par five hole six in the third round after only having two birdies on hole six in the first two rounds combined.


The Lions return to action on Feb. 17-18 with the Savannah Intercollegiate in Savannah, Ga. at the Club at Savannah Harbor.
