TULSA, Okla. (October 19, 2026) – The University of North Alabama men's golf team completed the first day of The Clerico tied for fifth place at the Cedar Ridge Country Club on Monday.
Round two of the tournament was suspended due to darkness Monday evening. All five Lions have at least two holes remaining in the second round before continuing into round three tomorrow morning.
Sophomore Arthur Estas (-1) finished tied for fourth and was one of five golfers to shoot under par after day one in Tulsa. The Belgium native led the Lions to the highest finish of any single tournament day, tied in fifth in the 13-team tournament.
For the first time this season, the Lions were matched up with themselves. North Alabama had the 9:10 to 9:30 tee times where Jack Morris and Luke Davis played alongside a New Mexico golfer. For the 9:20 tee time, Lucas Latimer and Will Hindemit played with a Kansas State golfer, while Estas competed against North Texas and Oral Roberts for his 9:30 time.
The Lions' starting lineup consisted of three sophomores in Davis, Estas and Latimer alongside two freshmen in Hindemit and Morris. There are no upperclassmen on the UNA men's golf roster this season.
Every team shot a minimum of 13-over through the first day of play. North Alabama shot two-under when it came to par-5 holes with an average score of 4.90. The team had only 17 birdies for today but evened it out with the fourth fewest birdies with 41 total.
After Estas, the freshman Hindemit (+9) had a seven-over second round but opened with a first round of two-over to tie for 34th with two holes to be played.
Davis and Morris, who competed in the same group on Monday, scored the same in each round. Both were eight-over in the first rundown before shooting just two-over in the second round with two holes to go. The transfer, Latimer, had a good start at four-over before dropping back to eight-over in the second round.
The Lions totaled 24-over on Monday, trailing only No. 3 New Mexico (+13), host school Oral Roberts (+16), South Alabama (+19) and Colorado State (+23).
North Alabama leads Louisiana Tech (+25), Kansas State (+25), UTRGV (+26), Louisiana (+30), UTEP (+32), San Jose State (+39) and North Texas (+44).
The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach Matt Terry most recently coached at Louisiana Tech before coming to UNA this offseason; this is the first tournament that both North Alabama and Tech have competed in since then.
Estas has three holes remaining in round two and will begin at 7:30 a.m. Hindemit, Morris, Davis and Latimer will begin on hole 17 at 7:30 a.m. and the Lions will roll straight into round three after the conclusion of round two in the morning.
