MONTGOMERY, Texas -- Strong showings by
Carter Goodwin and
Francois Jacobs have the University of North Alabama men's golf team in second place after two rounds at the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational after the opening day of play in the 14-team event.
Host Sam Houston leads with an 11-under-par, 565 total, while UNA is second at 572. The Lions had team rounds of 292 and 280 to close the day at four-under-par.
Goodwin's two round 139 total has him second, just one stroke back of Phichaksn Maichon of Texas A&M, who is playing as an individual. Goodwin had rounds of 72 and 67 on Monday. Jacobs is tied for 10th at 141.
UNA's
Henry Frizzell is tied for 25th (144),
Niko Nebout is tied for 46th (149) and
Andre Jacobs is tied for 65th (153).
The tournament concludes with a final round Tuesday.
