Luo finishes day two of NCAA Auburn Regional

Junior tied with two higher ranked golfers through two rounds

AUBURN, Ala. (May 13, 2025) – University of North Alabama men's golf junior Xing Luo finished tied for 52nd in the second round of the NCAA Regionals in Auburn on Tuesday, May 13.

This was the second day of the three-day tournament, playing 18 holes. Luo finished with a five-over, 77 score for the second round. He sits in 52nd at seven-over-par 151 for the first two days.

Only 16 of the 78 golfers that have recorded a round have shot under for the first two rounds. Only host school Auburn and Texas A&M have done so as a team.

Luo competed with No. 13 seed USC Upstate's Ross Wright for a second time and Chattanooga individual Camden Braidech.

Wright finished in 73rd for round one at nine-over for an 81 score. Braidech finished with Luo yesterday, tied for 46th at two-over for a 74 score.

Luo, the 143rd golfer in the nation according to Clippd Scoreboard, tied other ranked golfers such as No. 85 Enrique Dimayuga from SMU and No. 106 Aiden Krafft from Oregon.

This round started on time as the sun came over the course, drying some areas for the second round ahead.

Luo parred on the opening hole for the second straight day. Braidech birdied for his first after sinking a long putt from the front of the green.

The junior took two shots on hole two for the opportunity at a birdie. Around 20-feet out, he sank it for the first of the day.

However, Luo bogeyed on the next hole. The long 587 par-5 saw the putt go centimeters to the right that he was able to tap it in to get back to even for the day.

He got back to form on the fourth hole with a par. While Luo two-putted the hole, both the other two members of the group three-putted. Braidech joined Luo back at even for the round.

At this point, still two-over for the tournament, Luo already climbed the ranks to 33rd as other golfers started to fall behind him.

Luo parred through on the next five holes to finish out on the front nine. He shot through nine with a 36 score. He saw two par-3's, two par-4's and then another par-5.

Yesterday, hole six gave him trouble with a double bogey as he got stuck in the rough. Today, he needed only two shots to get to the green then used two putts to par the hole.

He continued the par trend into the back nine for the 10th hole. However, he bogeyed his next two holes to put him four-over for the tournament.

Luo parred for the 13th hole. However, he had to take a drop on the 15th causing a one stroke penalty. He beautifully placed it on the green and two-putted to save bogey.

It took six shots for the 571 par-5 16th hole. Luo took three shots on the par-3 over the water hazard for the next hole. The junior finished out the 18th hole with a par to end his round two at five-over.

UTC's Braidech finished the second day in 45th at six-over, besting Luo by a stroke. Wright jumped to 72nd at 13-over for the two days.

The junior from Katy, Texas finished in 20th for par-3s as he averaged a 3.13 average between the two days. Luo added another birdie during the round, best for 37th in the field with five.

"Just a tough back nine after a good first nine," said The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach, Austin Phillips. "Hopefully he gains some confidence for tomorrow. Regionals play is hard, and we just have to be ready to go tomorrow."

This tournament finishes for Luo tomorrow at 9:31 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14 as he competes with Wright for the third straight day and UT Martin's Jonathan Xoinis. Xoinis is in 60th, one stroke back from Luo.
