Ferworn, Luo tabbed to All-ASUN conference teams

The pair earns All-ASUN honors in back-to-back seasons

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 6, 2025) – The Atlantic Sun Conference announced Tuesday that University of North Alabama golfer sophomore Andrew Ferworn was named to the All-ASUN Third Team and junior Xing Luo was named to the All-ASUN Second Team.

Last season, Luo took home third team honors, while Ferworn earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team. For Ferworn, he becomes just the third golfer in North Alabama Division I history to achieve the third team honors. Luo did it in 2024, while Francois Jacobs notched the award in 2023.

For Luo, he becomes the first second team honoree since Jackson Wedgeworth in 2021.

Luo had a miraculous season as he finished fourth at the ASUN Championships in Valdosta, Ga. where he also made ASUN All-Tournament Team. He finished as the highest ranked golfer in the ASUN and received an individual bid to compete in the Division I NCAA Regional Championships in Auburn, Ala. Luo is the first golfer in program history to accomplish this.

Luo won two individual crowns on the season with one at the GMAC invitational and the other at the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational. He also recorded the lowest individual round in UNA history with a 65 at the Turtle Point Invite while also adding the best Division I Three Round Individual Tournament finish with a score of 200 at the 2024 GMAC Invitational.

The junior had seven top-10 finishes this season and rattled off five of his last six as top-seven finishes or better. He finished as the 143rd ranked golfer in the nation and finished with the best scoring average over a full season for the Lions with a 70.9.

"Xing had a phenomenal season and did everything he could do," said The Schmitz Family Head Men's Golf Coach, Austin Phillips. "We are proud of his accomplishments; to be the best ranked player in the ASUN is an unbelievable accomplishment. The developments he has made over these last few years has been remarkable; it is not easy being a two-time All-ASUN conference player. We look forward to seeing him in the NCAA Regionals next week in Auburn and I know he will represent the University and Conference well."

However, it was neck and neck most of the season for the pair. If it wasn't Luo, most of the times it was Ferworn taking the mantle.

Ferworn added two individual crown wins of his own this season. In back-to-back tournaments, he won the Cullan Brown Collegiate and the Turtle Point Invite; he is the first UNA golfer to ever accomplish the feat of back-to-back tournament wins.

He had seven top-15 finishes this season and never finished lower than 10th during fall play. He added an 11th place finish at the ASUN Championships in Valdosta, Ga.

As mentioned, Ferworn was right next to Luo for a majority of the season. He took home two ASUN Golfer of the Week awards himself, claiming seven overall for the Lions – the most in a season, as the previous was two.

The sophomore landed a 203-score card at the 2024 Turtle Point Invite for the second-best Division I Three Round Individual Tournament total in school history. His first round at the tournament, he shot a 66 – also the second best in school history. For first place, see Luo.

Ferworn reached as high as No. 135 in the country in the rankings; he added the best fall scoring average in school history with a 70.75.

"Andrew had an amazing fall semester and really showed a lot of growth in the spring," said Phillips. "His game wasn't where he wanted to be, but he did a lot of learning and will be better in the future for it. For him to be an All-ASUN selection is a great accomplishment and we are proud of his season."

Both of these golfers were integral parts to the team claiming their highest ranking in school history at 78th in the country.

These two helped lead the Lions to two tournament crown wins at the GMAC Invitational and the Turtle Point Invite. At the Turtle Point Invite, the pair led the team to break the course record at 25-under.

Ferworn, Luo led the team to their highest finish at the ASUN Championships in Valdosta, Ga. on Wednesday, April 24 as they placed fourth. No team in UNA history had finished higher than fifth. This was also a three-spot jump from 2024 as they finished in seventh.
