FLORENCE, Ala. (September 23, 2025) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team experienced an unfortunate end to a promising day at the Johnie Imes Invitational on Tuesday in Missouri, as the final round was canceled with under nine holes remaining due to weather.
UNA officially finishes in a tie for 10th place with Murray State, as only the first two rounds were recorded. The third-round results are incomplete and do not factor into the final score. UNA officially finishes 35-over-par 611 with rounds of 302 and 309.
The Lions had a prime opportunity to jump up the leaderboard in the final round, competing with the likes of Morehead State, Howard, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Murray State and UAB for a spot in the top half of the field. The Lions had just made the turn into the front nine when the event was called.
Four of the five UNA golfers had completed a birdie or par on their final hole.
Though not reflected in the results, the Lions recorded five birdies in the final round with two from junior
Ava Schwartz. She was one-over in the round when the event was stopped and had just sank a birdie on Hole 3. True freshman
Kiersten Riggins recorded a par-birdie-par on Holes 2-4 and was on pace for a career round at two-over. Riggins had moved three spots up the individual leaderboard at the time.
Sophomore
Sirichaya Chanpen officially finishes in a tie for 13th with a score of three-over-par 147, while true freshman
Lisa Palmgren finishes in a tie for 18th with a four-over-par 148. Both are tied with golfers from Missouri, Kentucky and Cincinnati, among others.
Chanpen was three strokes off the school record for the best two-round fall tournament total, which was set last season at Clemson by
Jahnavi Prakhya with a 144.
Missouri wins the tournament at 14-under-par 562, followed by Kentucky at three-under-par 571. Kentucky's Cathryn Brown finished seven-under to win individual medalist honors.
The Lions have two more fall tournaments, including the Lady Red Wolves Classic at Arkansas State on Oct. 13-14 and The Judson hosted by Southern Miss from Oct. 27-28.
