Chanpen leads Lions through first round of ASUN Championships

Sophomore leads front nine before finishing three-over; Lions sit 10th overall

DOTHAN, Ala. (April 17, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team finished the first round of play at the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Friday at Dothan Country Club in Dothan, Ala. The Lions are currently 10th place at 17-over.

Sophomore Sirichaya Chanpen, who played with the top players from Austin Peay and EKU today, led the entire field at one point with a bogey and three birdies over the first 10 holes to start two-under. She finished three-over (75) for the day to tie for 24th with six players.

Three Lions were just one or two strokes behind Chanpen, including fellow sophomore Olivia Whittle in a tie for 30th with a 76 on her card. Whittle gained momentum with two birdies on the first two holes, then added another on her sixth hole.

True freshman Kiersten Riggins made her postseason collegiate debut Friday and finished with a 77. Like Chanpen and Whittle, Riggins penciled three circles on her card on Holes 2, 6 and 18. Junior Ava Schwartz also finished with a 77 and had one birdie on Hole 6. Riggins and Schwartz are tied for 39th.

Redshirt junior Kerigan Klauber finished 11-over in the first round with two birdies.

UNA was the only team to have a player birdie on Hole 6 and Hole 13. Klauber was the only player in the field to do both. Twenty players from other teams had a bogey or worse on Hole 6 — a par-five. The Lions had the third-most birdies among the 12 teams.

North Florida is the team leader at 10-under par, followed by FGCU in second 11 strokes back. The top 10 includes Lipscomb in third, then Stetson, EKU, Bellarmine, Central Arkansas, Austin Peay, West Georgia and UNA. The Lions are ahead of Jacksonville and Queens.

UNF's Brianna Castaldi carded a 67 to lead the field at five-under.

Play will resume Saturday morning with UNA teeing off at 8:55 a.m. The Lions will pair up with Jacksonville and Queens for the second round, starting on Hole 10.
