NOTES
THE RUNDOWN: The University of North Alabama baseball team dropped a midweek matchup against Samford in Birmingham on Tuesday, 6-5. This ended the Lions' four game winning streak that stretched back to a run rule win over Murray State last Wednesday, Feb. 18. North Alabama had third baseman
Dylan Coleman average .600 from the plate with two home runs, a double and four RBIs.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the second through fourth all-time meetings between the two programs. The Lions have won the only matchup between the two programs in 2024, 13-7. North Alabama used a 15-hit day to capitalize on their first win of the season in the South Alabama Invitational.
SCOUTING THE SCREAMING EAGLES: USI owns a similar record to North Alabama at 6-3 through three different opponents, Cal State Bakersfield, Oakland and Saint Louis. Both series went four games as Southern Indiana split with CSBU but swept Oakland before falling on the road at Saint Louis in their most previous matchup, 3-1. USI is a member of the OVC, the same conference as UNA's weekend opener, SIUE. The Screaming Eagles were picked to finish seventh in the preseason polls to begin the year. Clayton Slack boasts 16 hits on the year with a .432 average to lead Southern Indiana through the nine game season.
COLE(MAN) WORLD: The Lions dropped their midweek matchup against Samford, but Coleman had a breakout game of sorts – something the coaching staff said they expected. The Delta State transfer has slotted into the full-time position at the hot corner and currently leads the Lions in batting average (.382), at-bats (34), runs (11), hits (13), doubles (3), triples (2), home runs (4) total bases (32) and RBIs (13).
PINK POWER: North Alabama encourages all fans to wear pink for the Friday night game against Southern Indiana to celebrate survivors of Breast Cancer. In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness, the Lions will host special guests for the first pitch.
