HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (March 2, 2026) – Redshirt junior Kerigan Klauber and the University of North Alabama women's golf team had a record-setting day at the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate on Monday at RTJ Hampton Cove, as the Lions lead after one day.
The second round was paused due to darkness and will be resumed Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. Round three will immediately follow.
The first round is where UNA made history, as the Lions finished with a 287-stroke score (-1) to set a new school record. The previous low round was a 290 in the second round of the Rivertowne Invitational in Charleston, S.C. Today marked UNA's first time recording a round below par at one-under.
Klauber — a redshirt junior — had the best round of her career with a four-under-par 68 in the opening round. This is the lowest round by any UNA women's golfer since 2023 and the second lowest in history. She ties Jackie Klemm for second all-time, while the school record of 67 was set by Klauber's former teammate Allycia Gan in 2023.
"Really good team day today," said UNA head coach Neil Self. "We were able to minimize and bounce back from every mistake and stay focused and present for the sake of the team. Everyone contributed and battled the whole way. If we continue that tomorrow, we'll be in good shape."
Through almost two rounds, UNA sits at five-over-par to lead Austin Peay by five strokes. Klauber is atop the individual leaderboard at -4, maintaining par with two holes left in the second round. She is the only player under par, while a pair from Austin Peay and Belmont are four strokes back at even.
Klauber finished with eight birdies over two rounds, including six in the first. On the back nine, she finished -5 with birdies on 11, 12, 14, 16 and 17. She parred the rest of the holes on that stretch. She had just two bogeys and one double bogey the entire two rounds.
Junior Ava Schwartz was also in the top 10 today at four-over, carding a 76 in the first round while sitting even in the second round. She has six birdies in the second round — seven total — and still has three holes to go in the round.
Freshman Kiersten Riggins and sophomore Olivia Whittle are tied for 17th at six-over. Riggins finished with a 78 in the first round, but like Schwartz, played steady in the second round and sits even with three holes to go. Whittle finished even in the first round, including five birdies in the front nine. She is currently six-over in the second round, but ended the day with a birdie on hole 1. She birdied that hole both rounds today and will pick up on hole two tomorrow.
Rounding out the order for UNA is sophomore Sirichaya Chanpen, who had an incredible first round with a one-under-par 71. She had four birdies, three bogeys and 11 pars. Her second round currently sits at 69 with three holes remaining. Individual Gracee Prince is 10-over, but is having a stellar second round with four birdies to sit even with two holes to go.
UNA was the top team in four pars and par fives while leading the field with 30 birdies. UNA's golfers also combined for the fewest bogeys with just 35. Klauber has been the best player on par three holes so far with a -3 score. She is also the only player with two or less bogeys so far. Schwartz was the second-best player in the field on par fours with a -2 score.
Behind UNA and Austin Peay on the team leadreboard is Belmont in third, followed by UAB, Samford, Bellarmine, IU Indy, Indiana State, Eastern Illinois and Merrimack.
