THE LINEUP: UNA has started the same five golfers in all three spring invitationals and will do so again this week in Nashville. This group includes Kerigan Klauber, Ava Schwartz, Olivia Whittle, Sirichaya Chanpen and Kiersten Riggins — in that order.
THE FIELD: UNA is the only team from the state of Alabama in this tournament but joins Lipscomb, Bellarmine and Austin Peay as ASUN representatives. The rest of the field includes a variety of schools from Tennessee and nearby states. Others include Memphis, Ball State, Belmont, Tennessee State, Dayton, Loyola Chicago, Northern Illinois, Delaware, UTRGV and Longwood. Two teams with a longer trip include Seattle U and Eastern Washington.
ORDER OF EVENTS: Sunday will include a practice round. Both rounds are set to begin via shotgun start at 8 a.m. For the first round, UNA will tee off from holes 9-12 around the turn. With a sizable field, UNA will play in a foursome with Dayton, Loyola Chicago and Longwood. Admission is free.
THE COURSE: Hermitage Golf Course is home to General's Retreat, which was built in 1986 with architect Gary Roger Baird and sits along the Cumberland River. It played host to the LPGA Sara Lee Classic from 1988 to 1999 and has been voted the "Best Golf Course in Nashville." Chanpen will start on a par five at hole 11, while the other four Lions will start on par four holes.
LAST TIME OUT: UNA played in the Magnolia Collegiate last week in Mobile, Ala. The Lions turned in an 11th place finish, moving two spots up the leaderboard on the final day to move past Navy and future United Athletic Conference opponent UT-Arlington. UNA's best three-round total came from Whittle a consistent card of 77-79-78 to finish 18-over. Schwartz carded a 75 in the final round and will look to carry that momentum into Music City.
NASHVILLE REWIND: This will be UNA's second time playing at Hermitage Golf Course, but the first time playing the General's Retreat course. Last season, UNA played on the President's Reserve Track and finished 8th of 16 teams. The Lions finished 52-over to beat Jacksonville by one stroke, led by a stellar performance from then-senior Hannah Dees. She carded a 73 in the final round to tie for 10th — her fifth-career top 10 finish. Klauber played as an individual last season and went 13-over to lead the returners. Chanpen and Whittle also played this tournament last season.
KNOW YOUR ENEMY: This will be the sixth time UNA has played in a tournament hosted by Lipscomb. Starting in 2021 — the third season of UNA's women's golf program — UNA played in the Lady Bisons Bay Point Classic in Panama City Beach, Fla. and made four trips before Lipscomb began hosting in Nashville. The best finish by UNA was a third place showing in 2023.
KLAUBER-ING DRIVE: Klauber, a redshirt junior, is the only player on the roster from Tennessee. Her hometown of Athens is just under three hours away from this week's course. Just a few weeks ago on March 5, Klauber won ASUN Co-Golfer of the Week with a 217 score at the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate. She tied Austin Peay's Jordin Cowing in that tournament and will see her again this week in Nashville.
