With a stunning 34-30 road win over defending Big Sky Conference Champion Southern Utah, the University of North Alabama has been named the STATS LLC Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Team of the Week.  

STATS aquired The Sports Network in February of 2015 and provides full FCS coverage, including the creation of a direct-to-consumer news site (www.fcs.football) and an end-of-season awards show to honor past and present performers of FCS football.

The Lions have also made their first appearance in an FCS ranking as UNA is receiving votes (33) in the September 3 STATS FCS poll.

North Alabama is an FCS Independent in 2018 before joining the Big South Conference in 2019.

UNA gained 544 yards of total offense in its FCS opener and scored with 12 seconds left on a one-yard pass from Christian Lopez to Dexter Boykin to secure the 34-30 win. The Lions drove 97 and 75 yards for touchdowns in the fourth quarter to overcome deficits.
