DEBARY, Fla. (February 23, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team opened the spring portion of the 2025-26 schedule on Monday in the 2026 Babs Steffens Invitational at DeBary Country Club in Florida, sitting ninth place after two rounds.
On a cool and windy day in the Orlando area, UNA started with one of the best first rounds in the 16-team field. The Lions carded a 308 in the first round to tie for fifth with UNC Asheville, but UNA fell back four spots in the second round with a 323.
The Lions are currently ninth at 63-over, leading Drake by one stroke. Behind UNA and Drake outside the top 10 are Bryant (+69), Troy (+73), Southern Illinois (+81), Southern Utah (+89), Mount Mercy (+100) and Le Moyne (+126).
Tournament host Stetson has the two-round advantage at 15-over. The Hatters have a four stroke lead on Appalachian State, and those two have a 13-stroke lead on the rest of the field. App State golfer Zoe Duval is four-under to lead the field.
All five Lions had at least one birdie in the first round, led by two from sophomore Sirichaya Chanpen. UNA's second round leader was redshirt junior Kerigan Klauber with three birdies.
Junior Ava Schwartz is UNA's leading golfer heading into round three tomorrow at 14-over-par 156 with steady rounds of 76 and 80, respectively. She is in a five-way tie for 26th place. Klauber is two strokes behind that at +16, followed by sophomore Olivia Whittle in a tie for 40th at +18.
Chanpen sits at +20 to rank inside the top 50, while freshman Kiersten Riggins rounds out the order in a tie for 60th at +23. All five golfers rank within the top two-thirds of the field as 91 golfers competed today.
The Lions will start on Holes 6-8 tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. alongside players from Palm Beach State College and Georgia State.
