NOTABLES
THE LINEUP: UNA will deploy the same five starters for a fourth straight tournament, led by redshirt junior Kerigan Klauber at the top of the order. The rest of the lineup includes sophomore Sirichaya Chanpen, junior Ava Schwartz, sophomore Olivia Whittle and true freshman Kiersten Riggins.
THE FIELD: This will be the smallest tournament UNA has played in this season, as the Lions are one of five teams along with Mercer, ETSU, Bethune-Cookman and Belmont. This will be UNA's third time facing Belmont this spring, finishing 12 strokes ahead of the Bruins at the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate and 10 strokes behind at last week's Nashville Invitational. UNA also beat Belmont by 16 strokes in the fall at The Judson in Mississippi.
ORDER OF EVENTS: The Lions practiced on Saturday and will play 36 holes on Sunday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. This will be the first time UNA has started a tournament on a Sunday since the fall opener in August — the Jayhawk Invitational hosted by Kansas. The final round will take place Monday morning.
THE COURSE: This will be UNA's sixth time playing in the state of Georgia since the program started in 2018, but this will be the first time at Houston Lake. This will be a par 72 course that spans 6,182 yards. The golf course sits along the shoreline of the beautiful 135 acre Houston Lake and is known for its fast greens. The crown jewel of the golf course, the 18th hole, requires a tee shot that must avoid the lake in front of the tee box and along the entire right side of the hole. The 18th hole has been recognized as "One of Georgia's Best Golf Holes" by the Atlanta Journal and Constitution.
LAST TIME OUT: UNA finished 11th of 16 teams at the Nashville Invitational last week, totaling 60-over to defeat Eastern Washington, Loyola-Chicago, Bellarmine, Dayton and Tennessee State. Klauber carded a 73 in the final round to lead the way, while four of the five UNA golfers finished in the top 50.
MERCER REWIND: This will be UNA's third time playing in a tournament hosted by Mercer. Last season, the Lions had a successful run in Macon at the Brickyard Golf Club with a fourth-place finish of 10 teams at 38-over. Then-senior Jahnavi Prakhya finished tied for sixth, while Chanpen led all returners with a top 20 finish as a true freshman. UNA first competed at the Brickyard in 2024 and finished seventh of nine teams at 48-over. Mercer won both years.
FAMILIAR FACES: While UNA has seen Belmont multiple times this season, the Lions are also familiar with the rest of the field. Mercer has played in three tournaments with UNA — the two Brickyard events and once at the Tiger Classic at Clemson in 2024. UNA has seen ETSU just once at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate in South Carolina in 2021. The Lions met Bethune-Cookman three times in 2019, once in 2020, once in 2023 and once in 2024 at the Marsh Landing Match Play event in Jacksonville, Fla.
