PERRY, Ga. (March 28, 2026) – The University of North Alabama women's golf team completed the first two rounds of the Houston Lake Invitational on Sunday hosted by Mercer, as the Lions sit fourth place at 41-over with one round remaining.
Junior Ava Schwartz was the highlight of the day, bouncing back from a 79 in the first round with a 71 in the second. Her second round included just one double bogey and three birdies on holes 2, 16 and 18. She did not have any other bogeys in the second round. The Temple, Texas native is tied for fifth at six-over.
This marked the lowest round of Schwartz's collegiate career. Her previous low this spring was a 73 in the second round of the Huntsville.org Intercollegiate.
Sophomore Sirichaya Chanpen is currently in the top 10 after two rounds with scores of 77 and 75 in the first two rounds, respectively. She is tied for eighth at eight-over, including five birdies in the first two rounds.
True freshman Kiersten Riggins is tied for 14th with a 77 in the first round and a 78 in the second. She had two birdies in the first round and one in the second. Redshirt junior Kerigan Klauber and sophomore Olivia Whittle are tied for 21st at 18-over.
Much like UNA's last tournament in Nashville, the par-4 courses brought the most success. UNA had an average score of 4.19 for the second-lowest average in the field behind tournament leader East Tennessee State.
ETSU leads the field at eight-over, leading second place Mercer — the host — by 16 strokes. Belmont is one stroke behind Mercer in third, followed by UNA in fourth. The Lions have a 55-stroke lead on Bethune-Cookman in fifth.
ETSU's Arisa Piyamanit leads the field at seven-under, carding a 66 in the second round.
The Lions resume play tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT. The Lions will start on hole one and holes 15-18 along with Bethune-Cookman. Schwartz will also play with an individual from Belmont starting on 15. Klauber will start on the first hole with Bethune Cookman's Sanai Lambert.
