NOTES
THE RUNDOWN: The UNA baseball team claimed the series on Saturday with a prolific win over Central Arkansas, 16-9 at Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium. North Alabama won its fourth series behind one of the best hitting days of the season. The Lions hit .405 with 15 total hits as eight of the nine batters earned a hit in today's win. This is UNA's third consecutive series win over Central Arkansas dating back to last season. The 16 runs for UNA tie for the most runs scored during the Division I era with the April 16, 2023 Bellarmine game and the April 13, 2025 Austin Peay game. The Lions scored two or more runs in every inning but two.
Dylan Coleman led all batters on Saturday with his four hits, four runs scored, six runs batted in, two home runs and a sacrifice fly. This is the 12th game with multiple home runs hit for UNA, leading it to a share for first place in the league at 41 total.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 48th all-time meeting between the two programs dating back to 1982. The Lions are 19-5 at home against the Skyhawks and boast an overall record of 34-13. Since the beginning of UNA's first Division I season in 2019, UNA holds an 8-4 advantage and a 6-2 record when playing UTM at home. Last season, North Alabama swept the 2025 games with a 3-1 victory at home and a 2-1 victory in Martin. The Lions have played six of the last seven in Florence and current ride a seven-game win streak.
SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS: UT Martin sits at 15-16 for the season with a 3-6 conference record. The Skyhawks are 2-9 on the road this season playing Nicholls, SIU, SEMO and Morehead State. UTM has scored in double figures six times through the 31 games played with all leading to wins. When UT Martin scores nine or more runs in a game, the team is 8-1. When the Skyhawks allow an opponent to score 10 or more runs in a game, they are 1-10. Colten Payton is an offensive power for UTM with 49 hits this season, 40 RBIs and a .377 batting average – all three are category leaders.
DILLY DILLY: Dylan Coleman was announced as the ASUN Player of the Week on Monday, April 6. This is only the fourth ASUN Player of the Week award for the Lions since the transition to Division I in 2018-19. The first came in 2019 for
Reid Homan on April 15 and the second came in 2024 for Gehrig Frei, also on April 15.
Will Millard won the third award a couple of weeks ago after his stellar play in the sweep against Eastern Kentucky. This now becomes the first season with multiple ASUN Player of the Week award winners during the Division I era. In 2024, Frei and then-pitcher turned UNA pitching coach
Jacob James won Player and Pitcher of the Week honors within a week of each other. This is the eighth ASUN Weekly Award for the team since joining the conference. Under head coach Jad Prachniak's tutelage, this is the third ASUN Player of the Week award during his three-year tenure.
A TIE FOR FIRST: After the series win over Central Arkansas, North Alabama now owns a 7-5 conference record and places them at the top of the ASUN Gold division. This leads to a three-way tie for first place with Lipscomb and Austin Peay. North Alabama fell on the road to Lipscomb to open conference play 1-2 while Austin Peay dropped the series to the Bisons at home, 1-2. The Lions travel to Clarksville for their first matchup of the season with Austin Peay and the opportunity to break the tie of the first seed.
